Beginner's Guide to CSA Add-On Shares
Expand Your CSA Product Suite & Revenue Stream
Thinking about Adding CSA Add-On Shares to Your Farm Biz & Need a Road Map?
- Are customers asking you to add new CSA products, but you don't have the time or capacity to produce them yourself?
- Are you wondering if someone else could provide those products for you, but you're not quite sure how to approach a farm partner to get them to say yes?
- Are you unsure how to price your add-on shares so you can make some money off it too?
- Maybe you're just curious how they even work?
- Could you use a guide to walk you through the some of the key logistics of CSA Add-On's (and reassure you that you've thought of everything?)
Then you're in the right place, my friend.
I'm Corinna Bench from Shared Legacy Farms, and over the last 10 years, my CSA has added up to 8 different types of add-on shares. (And about 60% of my customers purchase at least one of them!)
That's a nice shot of revenue.
Even better: I don't produce any of them.
My investment is simply the time it takes to organize their sale and delivery.
What's a CSA Add-On share?...
It's another subscription product you offer in addition to your CSA vegetable share. Something like eggs, fruit, cheese, or flowers. You charge extra for this product, and it's a way to generate more revenue.
The benefits of add-on shares are enormous.
- They add momentum and excitement to your customer's experience.
- They provide more service and value to your customers (which means happy clients who keep choosing your CSA).
- They build the kind of food systems you want to see thriving locally.
- They make you some extra money without a lot of work (especially if you are selective about which add-on shares to do).
Your customers trust you, and they welcome your suggestions to help them source more food locally.
So why not connect them to a broader food audience of locally-sourced producers that you've curated for them?...
It's not actually that hard to do. All it takes is a few pointers to feel confident you know what steps to take.
Recently, I've had farmers ask me if I could offer a class on this topic....
So here you go!
